Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced in the Assembly that the Anna Canteens are receiving good response.
He said that 100 of these subsidized eateries were launched and another 104 would be ready by month end and 96 more in the next three months taking the total to 300 by December 31. He appealed the people to donate for the scheme on occasions such as birthdays and marriages.
Chandrababu said that Anna Canteens was incurring an expenditure of Rs.75 per head per day on breakfast, meal and dinner whose price was just Rs.5 each but it was not bogged down by the huge subsidy burden on the government. He said that he had drawn inspiration from the founder president of TDP late NT Rama Rao who had launched Rs.2 kilo rice scheme and free meal at TTD. He said that 34 lakh people had so far eaten at Anna canteens which were designed on the lines of Amma canteens in Tamil Nadu, Indira canteens in Bengaluru and McDonald’s and KFC outlets with the best of facilities.
