Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the officials to ensure effective arguments in the Supreme Court to enable the BC, SC and ST students to choose open or reservation category seats in the medical colleges as per GO RT No.550, when the petitions come up for hearing.
The High Court had recently struck down the impugned GO restricting the students’ freedom to choose between open seats or the ones reserved for them. The government challenged the verdict dated August 7 in the apex court following pleas by the affected categories of students. Another petition was filed on behalf of the NTRUHS.
According to a release, the High Court ruled that a BC, ST or ST student should be considered as eligible for admission to open category sets only if he or she secures a seat in that category on the basis of merit.
