CPI(M) plans to intensify agitation for SCS

Tuesday, February 13, 2018

The Communist Party of India (M) is chalking out a plan to launch a massive agitation on the lines of the Visakha agitation in the late 1960s to achieve Special Category Status.

The CPI(M) and other Left Parties will meet on Wednesday to take the proposal forward. Speaking to media here today, CPI(M) State secretary P.Madhu said that the then government had to bow down to the people’s sentiment and agitation with the slogan – Visakha ukku Andhrula haku – 1966. Sixty six Communist MLAs had resigned their posts in protest against the government’s indifferent attitude. As many as 32 youth had died in police firing during the agitation. The government bowing down to the people’s agitation, agreed to set up the steel plant.

Madhu said that the TDP maintained silence during all these four years and suddenly woke up just before the general elections. It hoodwinked the people on allocations all these years. There was no match between the claims of the BJP and TDP making the people in utter confusion on allocation of funds and implementation of the assurances given at the time of bifurcation of the State.

The YSRCP was not clear on its approach. Their protest in Parliament appeared to be a lip service, he said.
