BJP asks TDP to prove SCS has been extended to other States

Friday, March 2, 2018

In a sharp reaction to the TDP’s observation that the Centre has denied Special Category Status to the State but was extending to three other States, BJP State president K.Haribabu challenged the TDP to prove its claims.

He said there was no point in clamoring for SCS, when the Centre had promised to extend special assistance equivalent to the status. It was a wrong notion that the Centre was extending SCS to other States. ‘If it is true, let them prove it’, said Hari Babu.

The Centre would elicit State’s opinion on SCS and revenue deficit, the two contentious issues, Hari Babu said addressing the BJP Krishna district party extended meeting here on Friday. There was no dispute over the assistance provided to the State through Centrally sponsored schemes as part of special financial package. The dispute over bridging th revenue deficit for the year 2014-15 would also be resolved soon, he said.

He said that Dugarajapatnam port, the Kadapa steel plant and Visakhapatnam railway zone did not happen though they were promised in the AP Reorganization Act. The State government had to suggest an alternative as Dugarajapatnam could not be taken up for technical reasons. The task force on the Kadapa steel plant gave its report recently and it would be a reality soon. On Visakhapatnam Railway zone, he said that it was found not feasible. ‘We are discussing the issue with neighbouring States to find a way. We are hopeful that a positive decision emerge soon’, he said. The development of the State would be possible only through mutual cooperation and he added that the Modi government is fully committed to help the State,
