The temple priests (archakas) all over the State will chalk out a plan of action and launch an agitation in support of their demands according to district Archaka Sangham general Secretary Ailuri Srinivasa Deekshithulu and Assistant general secretary Kottalnka Muralikrishna.

The priests went in a rally from Turner’s choultry to the Collector’s office on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum on their demands. They said in the memorandum that if the demands were not fulfilled, temples would be closed all over the State after daily puja from April 16, said the general secretary.

The priests are demanding that the Supreme Court judgement that preference be given to archakas’ salaries first in the budget be implemented. While clerks were getting Rs.30,000 to Rs.40,000 a month, archakas with decades of service were getting a meagre salary, he said. Fund under Section 65(A) should be constituted with Rs.1,000 crore to pay regular salaries and diversion of funds for conduct of Pushkarams should be stopped, he added.
