CITU led All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers will march to Parliament on February 15 ahead of the Budget session to press for allocation of at least Rs.26,500 crore for Integrated Child Development Services by the Union Government.
The union’s State general secretary K.Subbaravamma told reporters that it was unfortunate that the NDA government was withdrawing itself form the ICDS and rendering the right to food, health and education of the poor people to the charity of big business. She said that it was due to the protracted struggle launched by it, the State Government had promulgated an order hiking the pay of Anganwadi workers and helpers to Rs.7,000 and Rs.4,500 respectively.
She said that they would wage a relentless struggle for social security benefits and a minimum monthly pay of Rs.20,000 for Anganwadi workers and Rs.17,000 for helpers taking into account the unprecedented price rise.
