Chittoor:: Three arrested and seized red sanders logs:: The police on Monday nabbed three red sanders smuggling operatives of Polur in Tamil Nadu at SS Konda cross and seized a vehicle and ten logs. The three were identified as Selvam, Raju and Sankar. They were remanded after being produced in the designated court.
Chittoor:: Woman set afire by partner:: A 30 year old man Krishnaiah, working in a government hostel in Penumuru mandal allegedly set Sumathi (26), a widow, ablaze by pouring kerosene on her following a dispute. Police said that the duo were allegedly living together at Goduguchinta. Recently, Sumathi discontinued her association with Krishnaiah. He allegedly attacked her when she visited Godugunchinta village.
Guntur:: Rs.50 crore released for compensation:: Chairman of the Agricultural Market Committee, Guntur Mannava Subba Rao ha said the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to pay Rs.1,500 per quintal above the prevailing market price to bail out the chilli farmers reeling under drastic fall in prices. The move would bring cheer to the farmers as they would get a compensation of Rs.30,000 per acre, he claimed. Payment would begin on April 20, he said. The government has fixed a MSP of Rs.8,000 per qunital. Any farmer who gets a price less than it would be paid Rs.1,500 per qunital.
Kurnool:: Two youth drown in river:: Two youth drowned in the Tungabhadra river near Bapuram Dargah at Nidjur in Kurnool mandal when they went for a swim along with three others. A worker in a cloth shop, Shaik Sameer Basha (16) and a mechanic, Shaik Adil Khan Basha (19) got trapped in a marshy pit in the river and lost their lives. Their friends tried in vain to rescue them and informed their family members who retrieved the bodies.
Srikakulam:: Stone laying for LI scheme on April 19:: Minister for Energy K.Kala Venkata Rao and Minter for Transport Kinjarapu Atchannaidu will lay the foundation tone for construction of the Madanagopalapuram Lift Irrigation scheme on the main canal of the Vamsadhara on April 19. Around 3,300 acres will get assured irrigation facility after completion of the project.
Vijayawada:: Dhananjayalu takes over as DRM:: R.Dhananjayulu, an officer of Indian Railway Traffic Service took over as Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager on Monday. He succeeded Ashok Kumar, who has been transferred. He joined the Indian Railways in 1989 ad worked in different capacities in commercial, safety, operations, general administration and other wings in Hyderabad, Hubli and Vijayawada divisions.
