  • Amaravati:: 1,347 cases slapped on cockfight organizers:: DGP N.Sambasiva Rao speaking to media at his camp office on Monday said that the police had slapped 1,347 cases against the organizers of cock-fight. He said that the High Court has banned the cock-fights and some persons have organized the same despite clear cut orders from the court. He said that 337 cases in West Godavari, 136 in East Godavari, 91 in Vijayawada city and 3 in Guntur urban and 309 cases in Guntur rural. He said that a case has been booked against Gudivada TDP constituency coordinator Ravi Venkateswara Rao for opening fire in the air. He said that the demolished Vangaveeti Ranga statue would be placed in its original place and are on the job of identifying the miscreants.
  • Old Guntur:: Arya Vysya demands establishment of Corporation with Rs.1,000 crore ::State Arya Vysya Mahasabha president Jayanti Venkateswarlu has demanded the State government to establish a Corporation with a corpus fund of Rs.1,000 to rescue the families of Arya Vysya. Speaking to pressmen here on Monday, he said that all political parties are using them but little was done to their welfare, he said. An app is created for the Arya Vysya and identity cards would be issued to 60 lakh people of the community in the State. To bring them together, a public meet would be held at Amaravati in a couple of months, he said. He demanded for establishment of Potti Sriramulu statue in the secretariat in Amaravati.
  • Visakhapatnam:: IGNOU extends last date:: The IGNOU has invited applications for certificate, diploma, graduation, post-graduation diploma and post-graduation programmes. The last date for the admission to the courses has been extended up to January 24, 2017. Candidates can access online admissions by logging on to www.onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in/admission and the prospectus can be had at the regional centres at Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Gajuwaka, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Etcherla, Amalapuram Rajam and Tuni.
  • Vijayawada:: 94.29 per cent pensions disbursed:: The State government has disbursed pensions worth Rs.429.67 crore to more than 40 lakh persons post demonetization the month of January according to a release. The total number of pensions in the State is 42 lakh and an amount of Rs.457.37 crore has been allocated. Out of the total 20.69 lakh old pensions, 19.55 lakh beneficiaries received the amount.
