  • Amaravati:: BJP State executive meet on January 23 and 24:: The State level BJP executive committee meeting will be held on January 23 and 24 at Kurnool. The BJP national executive has decided to establish booth level committees by September 25. In this background, the issue of establishing 46,000 booth committees will be taken for discussion at the meeting.
  • Guntur:; Haj pilgrims quota hiked:: State Haj Committee Executive Officer in a statement on Sunday said that the Saudi government has enhanced the Haj pilgrims quota from 1.36 to 1.70. He said in the statement that the last date for submitting applications is January 24 and so far 1,360 pilgrims have applied through online from all the 13 districts.   • Ongole:: National Beach Kabaddi competitions inaugurated:: Hyderabad High Court Judge Justice T.Sunil Chaudary on Sunday inaugurated the national level beach Kabaddi competitions at Karavadi in Ongole mandal in Prakasam district.
  • Visakhapatnam:: Wi-Fi and website launched at Zoo:: Vice Admiral H.C.S.Bishat, Flag Officer Commanding-in-chief, Eastern Naval Command on Sunday launched Wi-Fi and website of zoo at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. The zoo also took the initiative to join Digital India by launching e-Health, mobile app My.Gov.In and e-education.
  • Visakhapatnam:: Cockfight bettings takes place in spite of court curbs:: Despite curbs by the Supreme Court, betting on cockfights and use of knives by roosters continued as usual with full patronage of local MLAs in the city. Amounts in lakhs changed hands. Arilova was the hotspot where it was reportedly organized by an MLA and was conducted in full glare of the police who remained just mute spectators.
  • Vijayawada:: Chief Minister to Davos on Tuesday:: Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu accompanied by a State delegation will visit Zurich, Davos-Klosters, Switzerland to participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum from January 17 to 21. He will reach Zurich on January 16. WEF President Klaus Schwas extended invitation for a session on the ‘Future of Urban Development’ and Chandrababu Naidu will attend 45 to 50 meetings in Davos. He will be a key speaker at the session titled ‘Preparing for the City Century’ on January 17. He will represent India in the boardroom discussion titled’ India and South Asia Regional Strategy Group Meeting’ where world leaders will present.
  • Vijayawada:: Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga statue demolished:: Some unidentified persons had demolished the statue of Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga at Singhnagar pipeline road in the city. Followers in large number squatted on the road and raised slogans against the government. YSRCP district president Vangaveeti Radhakrishna demanded to arrest the accused within 24 hours or else the government has to take responsibility for the act. He lodged a police complaint at Singhnagar police station.
  • Hyderabad:: Jagan to tour in CRDA villages on January 19:: YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy will tour in the villages in the purview of CRDA on January 19 to extend support to the villagers whose lands are being forcibly being taken by the government. It may be noted here that the government itself has announced that it had pooled 33,000 acres of lands under land pooling. Attempts are being made to acquire agriculture lands. Jagan will stand by the villagers in their agitation against parting of agricultural lands.
  • Hyderabad:: Kotagiri Sridhar to join YSRCP:: Kotagiri Sridhar, son of former Minister late Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao after meeting YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday said that he would be joining the party on January 29 at a public meeting at Dwaraka Tirumala in West Godavari.
