Two children struck dead by lighting

Chittoor:: Two school children were killed on the spot and two other boys critically injured when lightning struck the tree under which they were taking shelter to escape rain at Rachapalyam village of Satyavedu mandal today. The deceased were identified as Vimal Raj and Mahesh both of 14 years old. The injured were shifted to SVRR Government Hospital in Tirupati.

Pushpa pallaki falls from truck

Chittoor:: Devotees escaped unhurt at the Kanipakam temple town when the ‘pushpa pallaki’ carrying the processional deity of Lord Vinayaka tilted from the truck and fell down in the early hours of Sunday. As part of the ongoing Brahmotsavams, the procession, which began on Saturday night continued till the early horus. Later, the devotes rushed to the palanquin for flowers. In the process, it titled and fell down.

Probe begins in thrashing of school children

Nellore:: Officials have begun an inquiry into the thrashing of nearly 15 children allegedly by the staff members of a private school at Duthaluru village in the district. The incident came to light after the parents confronted the school correspondent and question him on it. They demanded that stringent action be taken against those responsible. The MEO conducted a preliminary inquiry and sent a report to the district officials.

Two remand prisoners escape

Eluru:: Two remand prisoners escaped from the Tadepalligudem sub-jail on Sunday afternoon when the prisoners were allowed to have a haircut. They were identified as Sirrapu Ganesh of Gudivada in Krishna district and Bugata Shiva of Tadiparti in Anantapur district. They were arrested on the charge of committing thefts.

Kishtappa appointed as State general secretary of YSRCP

Hyderabad:: YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy has appointed former judge and party leader from Anatapuram Marakka Gari Kishtappa as party State general secretary according to a statement issued by the party central office.
