Tension prevails in Kovvada following preventive arrests

Vizianagaram:: Tension prevailed for sometime following preventive arrests of leaders of the Left Parties and few protesters at Kovvada in Pusapatirega on Sunday. The arrests were made in the wake of re-erection of a fencing around the site allotted to a bulk drug unit. Dalits have been demanding compensation for the land allotted to M/s S.V.L.Life Sciences Private Ltd., which is to set up a unit at a cost of Rs.25 crore. CPI(M) district secretary Tammineni Suryanarayana said that land had been allotted without issuing prior notices to the Dalit families and without conducting a gram sabha.

Mother and son commits suicide

Tirumala:: A woman along with her middle aged son committed suicide on Sunday here. The duo resorted to the extreme step at one of the rathi mandapams located in the vicinity of the APSRTC bus station. The incident came to light when the deceased Sekhar believed to be in his early forties walked towards a petty shop situated just a few feet away from the mandapam in the early hours of the day and suddenly collapsed on the road. The shop keeper alerted the duty security guards. Even before the medical team could arrive at the spot he is believed to have breathed last. It is at the same time that one of the onlookers also notices his mother later identified as Pushpa (60) lying dad frothed at her mouth.

Award for scholar

Kakinada:: Deputy Speaker Mandali Budha Prasad presented ‘Dantu Bhaskara Rao Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award’ to scholar Salaka Raghunatha Sarma on Sunday. The ceremony was combined with the valedictory of theatre workshop held by Young Men’s Happy Club and the government’s Creativity and Cultural Corporation.

Work for making AP pilferage-free

Vijayawada:: Minister for Energy K.Kala Venkata Rao today stressed the need to evolve a special mechanism for making the State pilferage free and advanced a three pronged strategy for it. It could be achieved by further reducing the T&D losses, enhancing the quality and reliability of power supply and speedy redress of grievances, he said in a teleconference with top officials of public sector utilities.

Vakula Ayurvedic Hospital inaugurated

Tirupati:: Minister for Industries Amarnath Reddy has today inaugurated a 100 bed Vakula Ayurvedic Hospital. Speaking to media, he said that TTDP MLA Revanth Reddy is not shifting his loyalities as was ciruculated in media. He said that the Korea government is ready to establish industries in the State and an MoU will be signed in December. An expected investment of Rs.7,000 crore is on the cards, he said.
