Intermediate student found dead in college hostel

Vijayawada:: An Intermediate first year student Alamati Bhargava Reddy (16) reportedly committed suicide on Friday. His body was found handing in his hostel room in Sri Chaitanya College at Nidamanuru. His roommates alerted the college staff and reasons for the extreme step is not immediately known. AP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson G.Hymavathi along with members inspected the hostel. Hymavathi said that the facilities in the hostel were very poor and the conditions in the class rooms, dining halls, kitchen and toilets were horrible. The Commission directed the Intermediate Board, Police and Women Development and Child Welfare officials to submit a report on the death of the student.

Four persons electrocuted in field

Kurnool:: Three members of a woman farmer’s family and an agricultural labourer were electrocuted while the grand daughter of the women farmer was severely injured while going to the agricultural field in Mikkinenipalli village of Sanjamala mandal of the district today. The deceased are Maddamma (70), Uppari Sudhakar (20) and Pravalika (11) and Shuker Basha (35). The MRO and police officials visited the village and inquired about the incident.

14 persons injured in two road accidents

Guntur:: At least 14 persons were injured in two separate road accidents that took place in the early hours of Friday. Ten persons including four women were injured when a bus coming from Tirupati overturned after crashing into the side railing on NH at Ankireddypalem. The injured have been shifted to GGH. In another incident, four persons were injured when private bus heading towards Chirala hit an auto rickshaw.

Hotel launches Braille menu card

Kakinada:: Grand, a city based hotel, of the GRT group has come out with an exclusive ‘Braille menu card’ for the visually challenged guests. General Manager of the hotel said that this is the second after the Taj in Mumbai to have the facility. He said that the hotel also made special arrangements for the physically challenged that included specially designed suits, entry points and wash rooms.

Man washed away

Kurnool:: Thimmappa (30) was washed away in the Handri when he jumped into the gushing waters for swimming at Budhawarapeta in the city today. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Task Force personnel launched a search operation to trace him.

Landslip hits traffic on Tirumala ghat road

Tirumala:: The first ghat road leading to Tirupati on Friday witnessed a massive landslip in the vicinity of Akkagarla temple about two km from here. As a consequence, a huge tree got uprooted and fell across the road leading to disruption in vehicular traffic. Vehicular traffic came to a half for a couple of kilometers. The TTD’s engineering staff along with the local police and vigilance and security personnel immediately reached the spot and restored the traffic.

High Court slaps Rs.2,000 fine on Endowments Commissioner

Hyderabad:: The Hyderabad High Court has slapped a fine of Rs.2,000 on the Endowments Commissioner Anuradha, Executive Officer of Vijayawada Sri Durga Malleswaraswami varla Devastanam Surya Kumari for not implementing the court’s orders to regularize the eligible NMR employees. It may be recalled that A.K.D.Siva Kumar, D.Kalyani and others have filed a petition in 2010 seeking a direction from the court. The High Court directed the respondents to regularize the eligible candidates which was not implemented. Taking a serious note of the action, Justice MS Ramachandra Rao today imposed a fine on the officer’s concerned.
