Srisailam ‘hundi’ nets over Rs.2.17 crore

KURNOOL:: The Srisailam temple earned Rs.2,17,62,716 by way of ‘hundi’ collection in the last 18 days. The offerings were counted on Wednesday. Pilgrims also offered 182 grams gold, 3.2 kg silver besides foreign currency, temple EO Narayana Bharat Gupta said.

Man held for making country-made guns

KAKINADA:: The Devipatnam police today arrested Musinani Brahmaji (38) a resident of Rajapudi village in Jagammpeta mandal and a carpenter by profession on the charge of making country-made guns and recovered from him the material being used for the purpose. The police nabbed him in the process of investigating a murder case. During questioning, Brahmaji confessed that he was making the guns and selling them to various people.

Eight held and 5,900 litres jaggery wash destroyed

RAJAHMANEDRAVARAM:: The Prohibition and Excise Department today raided the illicit distillation centres in East Godavari district and destroyed 5,900 litres of fermented jaggery wash and arrested eight persons on the charge of selling ID liquor, Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, Kakinada B.Aruna Rao said.

Fathima Medical College students organize a novel protest

VIJAYWADA:: The Fathima Medical College medical students today staged a protest in a novel way ‘by begging’ at Alankar Centre chowk. The protests by the students and their parents had reached the ninth day today with no specific assurance was received from the government. They demanded the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to fulfil his assurance given at the time of Nandyal by-elections to them. They reminded that Chandrababu has assured to take nine medical students to New Delhi and justice would be done to them and nothing took place so far. They made it clear that they would not leave the town till they were allotted seats.

VVR Housing Managing Director arrested

ELURU:: Eluru III Town police have arrested realtor Vaka Vasudeavarao today for cheating the people in the name of selling house plots according to Eluru DSP K.Eswara Rao. Vaka Vasudevarao has established VVR Housing India Private Limited in 2001 and collected huge amounts in the name of sale of plots. Despite the victims’ requests, he avoided registering the allotted plots and even not returned the amounts so collected. They lodged a complaint with the police who based on it arrested him.
