Resolution on quota for women passed

Amaravati:: The Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution urging the Centre to enact the Women’s Reservation Bill providing for 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Legislatures. Chandrababu Naidu said that it had been a long pending demand and said that the State government enjoyed the distinction of providing 33% reservation for women in government jobs, local bodies and in educational institutions and was committed to replicating the same in the political arena.

State set up coastal security panels

Vijayawada:: The State government has constituted a Coastal Security Committee. The committee formed as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and proposal of the State DGP will be headed by the Chief Secretary. Home Department Principal Secretary, DGP, Director of Ports, a representative of Union Home Affairs and central Intelligence Bureau, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Indian Coast Guard, State Fisheries Department, Port Trust and Customs department and IG or DIG of the State coastal security police will be the members.

Chief Minister gives green signal for designs

Vijayawada:: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today approved in principle the designs of Secretariat buildings to come up in the government city of the capital region. He primarily selected six designs in two categories in which the secretariat and HoD offices are on the same premises said CRDA Commissioner Ch. Sridhar in a press release.

TTD offers ‘silk vastrams’ to Srirangam temple’

Tirumala:: TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal along with JEO K.S.Srinivasa Raju today offered a pair of ‘silk vastrams’ to Lord Ranganatha Swamy at the famous Srirangam temple in Tamil Nadu. The sacred offerings was made on behalf of the TTD on the auspicious occasion of ‘Kaisika Dwadasi’. The authorities handed over the ‘vastrams’ to the chief priest. Earlier, they were received with traditional honours.

Fervour marks ‘chakra theertha mukkoti’

Tirumala:: Fervour marked the ‘chakra theertha mukkoti’ on Thursday at the temple of Lord Venkateswara Swamy. On the occasion, the priests carried out special rituals like ‘abhishekam’ to the deities of Ckakrathalwar, Narasimha Swamy and Hanuman at the sacred water body situated about two km from the main temple. Earlier, priests and the authorities trekked all the way to the theertham to perform the rituals.

Two girls drown in sea

Nellore:: Two girls drowned after they went to swim in the sea near Tupilipalem coastal village in Vakadu mandal today. Local fishermen retrieved their bodies. The victims were identified as Ramya (14) and Roshini (15) of the nearby Veereddysatram village of Kota mandal.
