Man commits suicide

Kurnool:: Lakshmikantha Reddy (35) committed suicide by consuming pesticide allegedly after his parents refused to give him money for consuming liquor at Marrikuntla village of Bethamcherla mandal of Kurnool on Sunday. He died even as he was being shifted to the general hospital here. He is survived by wife and two children. The police registered a case.

Dalits ryots defy curbs creates high drama

Vizianagaram:: The Dalit farmers and the police were locked in a wrangle for some time at Kovvada Agraharam in Poosapatirega mandal today. The High Court had scrapped GO 58 issued in the past and directed the district administration not to hinder cultivation on the 17.67 acres of government land that had been allotted to M/s S.V.L. Life Sciences Private Limited for setting up a unit. Following the court’s order and under the aegis of the Dalit Vyaasaya Karimika Sangham, 40 Dalit families who had been allotted the government land for cultivation in the past defied Section 144 crossed the fencing erected around the disputed site and sowed seeds and planted saplings into heir lands. Earlier in the day, the police took CPI(M) district secretary Tammineni Suryanarayana into preventive custody.

Chief Minister inaugurates grievance cell

Vijayawada:: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today inaugurated a grievance cell building constructed close to his residence at Undavalli near here. People can submit their petitions, complaints and grievances at the newly constructed building. Chief Minister would attend to the grievances here too apart from the Secretariat. The officials would record every complaint and send a SMS to the complainant after addressing the issue. In all, 500 people can sit at the hall.
