ANANTAPUR: Bike Rally by APCC chief Raghuveera Reddy:: APCC president N.Raghuveera Reddy will take up bike-rally on March 4 for the irrigation project said former MLA and Congress Mandal convener Manjunath said. Congress leaders and activists will participate in the bike-rally, he said and added that it will begin at Neelakantapuram and ends at Anantapuram.

ELURU: Naxalite and two couriers held:: A Naxalite, Prakash alias Dharmanna and two couriers – Ramana and Somaraju were arrested during combing operation in the Buttaigudem forests in West Godavari district on Tuesday. He is a native of Y.Ramavaram village in Rampachodavaram division of East Godavari district was a dalam member and was operating in Khammam, East and West Godavari districts according to SP Bhaskar Bhushan. The combing party seized a tapancha and party literature form the arrested persons.

Firangipuram- GUNTUR: Pharmacy student commits suicide:: Sumalata who is studying second year Pharmacy course in Deenapur Pharmacy College has committed suicide by hanging herself in the third floor of the College. She hails from Anantapur according to sources.

HYDERABAD: OU student union demands revoking of suspension of Dalit lawyers:: The Round table of Osmania University Students union has demanded that the suspension of Dalit advocates of Karimnagar should be revoked. They demanded that the judgment given by Justice Narasimha Reddy in the case of atrocities perpetrated on Dalits in Karamchedu and Tsunduru should be re-examined and the accused should be awarded stern punishment. Justice B.Chandrakumar who was the chief guest said caste discrimination, poverty and corruption would harm the society.

Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi demands Chief Minister to lead all-party delegation:: AP Special Category Status Struggle Committee leaders have urged the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to lead an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convey the mood of the people in respect of Centre’s silence in the Union Budget. Committee leaders Chalasani Srinivasa Rao, Ramakrishna and actor Shivaji said that grave injustice was done to the State in the Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Speaking to media, they said that the Centre failed to fulfill the assurance given to the AP State Reorganization Act, 2014 and people were losing their confidence in the Union Government.

Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar retires:: Hyderabad High Court Judge Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar retired on Tuesday. Acting High Court Chief Justice Dilip Baba Saheb Bhosale in a special meeting gave a grand farewell to him and appreciated the services rendered. Responding over the felicitations, Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar thanked the colleagues and advocates and staff who have extended their support in discharging his duties properly.

KURNOOL: Life convict commits suicide:: A life convict, Kumar (35) allegedly hanged himself to a tree on the premises of Kadapa Central Prison on Tuesday. The fellow prisoners who found him hanging to the tree alerted the prison officials. He was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Special drive for Auto drivers:: ADCP (Traffic) K.Mahendra Patrudu said that the department will launch a special drive from Wednesday. He said that the department had been receiving complaints on wrongful driving of the auto-rickshaws. Traffic police will book cases against drivers without uniform and found allowing commuters to sit next to them. Those overloading the vehicle beyond the prescribed norm will also be booked he said. The ADCP said that auto-rickshaws should be parked at least 100 metres from any junction and they will not be allowed to park in no-parking areas or thickly populated or commercial areas. He said that over 55,000 auto-rickshaws are plying on the roads as against the permissible limit of 18,000.

Experimental halt for two trains:: Stoppages will be provided to 18309/10 Sambalpur-Nanded-Sambalpur Express and 22851/52 Santragacchi-Mangalore-Santragacchi Express at Gajapathinagaram on an experimental basis with effect from March 18 according to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager M.Yelvender Yadav. Train No. 18309 Sambalpur-Nanded Express will reach Gajapathinagaram at 4.50pm and leave at 4.51pm from March 18. Train No. 18310 Nanded-Sambalpur Express will reach Gajapathinagaram at 12.06pm and leave at 12.07 pm from March 20. Train No. 22851 Santragachhi-Mangalore Express will leave Palasa at 1.50am and leave at 1.52am from March 18.

Urban Land Ceiling Department surveyor trapped:: The ACB sleuths on Monday caught red-handed a special surveyor of the Urban Land Ceiling Department when demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from a complainant on Tuesday. The accused N.Balakrishna demanded Rs.1.5 lakh from Mehdi Bibi, a resident of Hussain Nagar, Marripalem for issuing a no-objection certificate. The complainant express inability to pay huge sum and was negotiated to Rs.50,000. She lodged a complaint with the ACB against the accused and on Tuesday, the ACB laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe. ACB DSP K.Ramakrishna Prasad said that he will be produced in the ACB court on Wednesday.
