District Collector pats CA-CPT national ranker

Srikakulam:: District Collector K.Dhanunjaya Reddy today congratulated Dinesh Varma who got first rank in national level Charted Accountant-Common Proficiency Test (CA-CPT) conducted by the Institute of Charted Accountants of India. He said that the Srikakulam students were second to none in proving themselves in all examinations. Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists’ Federation State vice-president K.Venugopal said that Varma’s talent inspired many youngsters to pursue CA as a career.

Operation theatre inaugurated

Kakinada:: East Godavari District Collector Kartikeya Misra on Saturday inaugurated modular operation theatre at Srikiran Eye Hospital run by the Sankuratri Foundation here. Misra lauded the efforts of the foundation in rendering medical services to the poor by using state-of-the-art equipment. Chairman of the foundation S.Chandrasekhar said that the new operation theatre was built at a cost of Rs.75 lakh where there was no fear of infections to the patients from air and water.

Police intensify raids on unlicensed liquor shops

Vizianagaram:: Police intensified raids on unlicensed liquor shops and closed 110 of them and seized 7,030 liquor bottles during the last three days in the district. Based on bar code, seal and batch number the liquor bottles the police had also registered cases against 53 licensed liquor dealers who were responsible for the belt shops said a release.

Violation of road rules – 292 cases booked

Vizianagaram:: The Deputy Transport Commissioner B.Krishnaveni said 292 cases were registered during the last three months and driving licenses were suspended for violation of road safety norms. In a release, she said her department in coordination with the Police, R&B, NHAI and Panchayat Raj would be taking up a joint survey on NH-26 to prevent accidents and that 55 accident prone spots were identified. She said sub-centres were opened at Parvathipuram and Salur.

Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy arrested ahead of Chandrababu’s visit

Kurnool:: The police arrested Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy near the LIC office in Nandyal while he was going to inaugurate the RPS office on Saturday just before the arrival of Chief Minsiter Chandrababu Naidu. About 50 youth were also arrested along with him as the police feared they might obstruct Chandrababu tour. Resenting the arrests and demanding their release, several student leaders staged a rasta roko on the national highway.

Chief Minister lays foundation stone for bridge across Kundu

Kurnool:: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today laid foundation stone for a two-way bridge across the Kundu in Nandyal. The bridge, to be built with Rs.8.25 crore would connect villages on the banks of Kundu, besides easing traffic in Nandyal town. He also laid stone for work costing Rs.7.33 crore for de-silting the Kundu. He told the contractor to complete the works within 45 days.

Three day farmers’ stir from Monday

Vijayawada:: A nation-wide agitation by farmers’ associations, agricultural workers’ unions and people’s organizations will be organized from July 24 to 26 following a call given by the CPI. Said State Rythu Sangham secretary K.V.V.Prasad. He said that 46% of farmers in the country were burdened by debts and their percentage in the State was 92. The governments should implement the M.S.Swaminathan panel recommendations, he said.

Two temple employees held in job scam

Vijayawada:: The One Town police today arrested Sri Durga Malleswara swamy Varla Devasthanam assistant engineer P.Lakshman and CC to former temple Executive Officer D.Venu alias Durga Prasad who allegedly collected money from the unemployed promising them jobs. Venu conducted interviews in the Devasthanam and the engineer was accused of having collected Rs.5.5lakh from the aspirants said the police.
