YSRCP opposes amendments to Assigned Lands Act:: YSR Congress Party has alleged that the State Government had initiated steps to alienate weaker sections from the assigned lands to benefit the creamy layer of the ruling TDP. The party lamented that efforts were under way to handover 2,080 acres of assignment lands in and around the Capital regional to capitalists. Steps were being taken accordingly to regularize the ownership of lands said YSRCP spokesman Tammineni Sitaram.
State Minorities panel seeks withdrawal of film posters:: The State Minorities Commission ruled against the Telugu movie, Naanaku Prematho asking its marketing wing to take down and withdraw posters that are believed to have hurt the religious sentiments of the minorities. The commission’s ruling was in response to a complaint filed by Khaja Tanveer Ahmed of Asif Nagar. The petitioner submitted before the commission had pointed out that in some of the posters, the lead actors, Jr. NT Rama Rao and Rahul Preet Signh were shown posing in obscene posture with the back drop of the name of Allah, Prophet Mohammaed and some Quranic Verses. The commission after registering the case issued show cause notices to the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad and officer-in-charge of the Regional Censor Board, Hyderabad asking both he parties to respond to its notice within seven working days as to why a criminal case should not be filed against the producer, director, actor and other responsible persons.
Union Minister to inaugurate new blocks at College:: Union Minister for Urban Development M.Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the newly construed blocks of SKSD Group of Colleges on Monday. The blocks that were constructed at a cost of Rs.4 crore will house a junior college, auditorium, guest house, dinner hall and gymnasium. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the auditorium while AP Endowments Minister will inaugurate Junior College. Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas will inaugurate guest house and Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Ganga Raju will inaugurate the gymnasium and Tanuku MLA A.Radhakrishna will inaugurate dining hall.
Hike in property tax unconstitutiona::Representatives of Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents’’ Welfare Association alleged that the GVMC is hiking property tax by including corridor and cellar space while assessing property tax. VARWA Secretary claimed that the GVMC officials are issuing demand notices with 25 to 50 per cent increase in property tax even to individual householders. It is unconstitutional to hike property tax without issuing gazette notification, he said. Representatives of VARWA urged people’s representatives of Visakhapatnam to look into the issue.
CBI registers case against Bank Manager for scam::The Central Bureau of Investigation, Visakhapatnam branch has registered a case against B.K.Mohan Raju, the then Branch Manager of IOB, Veerabhadrapuram branch and others for allegedly cheating the bank of Rs.8.41 crore.
TDP leaders slam Rayapati for insulting Vizag:: Coming down heavily on Narasaraopet MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao for his statement against locating the headquarters of the new railway zone in Vizag on pretext that the port city was vulnerable to cyclones. TDP MLAs and MPs from the region said the city was the ideal place for it. Anakapalle MP M.Srinivasa Rao, Visakhapatnam West MLA Ganababu and few other MLAs said that the Chief Minister had been repeatedly saying that the rail zone would be located in Vizag.
