Kakinada Beach Festival-Information centre opened
The Tourism Department has opened a round-the-clock information centre at its Haritha Beach Resorts for the victors of the ‘Kakinada Beach Festival’ beginning from January 8, 2016. District Collector H.Arun Kumar inaugurated the centre today and said that the information centre would guide the tourists coming to city to participate in the three day beach festival. The centre would provide all information about the major tourist attractions in the district, availability of travel and accommodation facilities and the approximate charges to the visitors.


IIIT team bags eight medals
The power lifting team of the IIIT at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district bagged eight medals in the second AP State sub-Junior, Junior and Masters Powerlifting Championship held at the Andhra University Indoor stadium in Visakhapatnam on December 26 and 27. The team bagged four gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze medal and the Kadapa district team won the Junior Women Team Championship for the first time in powerlifting according to a statement.


CITU organizes protest over delay in establishing ESI hospital
CITU organized a demonstration protesting against delay in establishment of ESI hospital in the district although 25,000 workers were paying around Rs.1.75 lakh every year for the medical insurance benefit. CITU general secretary D.Govinda Rao and other 68 persons were arrested when they tried to stage protest demo at Labour Minister K.Atchannaidu’s residence. Govinda Rao said that ESI hospital should be built in Pydibhimavaram industrial zone.


Lion dies at Zoological park
An eight-year-old male lion housed at the animal rescue centre in S.V. Zoological Park died on Saturday morning. The lion Hari, which has brought from Hyderabad Zoo to here in 2014 was suffering from cancer.

Seven more arrested in AI Manager assault case
The Tirupati Urban Police today arrested seven persons in connection with Air India Station Manager S.Rajasekhar’s assault case that happened in November last year. The police have identified 19 accused linked to the case have already arrested nine members including Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The seven arrested are K.Mohan Reddy, V.Jayachandra Reddy, N.Jayasyam, C.Srikanth alias Srikanth Royal, P.Bala alias Bala Subramanyam, E.Lokesh alias Lokesh Yadav and Shaik Siraj Bash. Another wanted in the case S.Balakrishna Raju has applied for anticipatory bail.


Chief Minister promises sports academy at Kondavelagada
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu promised a sports academy at Kondavelagada in Nellimarla mandal while he inaugurated a weight lifting hall built at a cost of Rs.45 lakhs. He also promised to appoint a coach to train weightlifters. He thanked the GMR Management for arranging Rs.40 lakhs worth equipment of international standard. The village was first in the news when Valluri Srinivasa Rao, a weightlifter won a medal in Asian Games in 2006 and later in Common Wealth Games 2012.

Free skill development programme Government Institute of Chemical Engineering is offering free skill development programme on its premises from Monday. The short-term training programme meant to empower students and unemployed youth of disadvantaged sections, aim at providing a new channel for the trainees to gain employment.
