TVS Koteswari tops CA-CPT examination

Vijayawada:: TVS Koteswari, a student of the city-based Gurukul coaching centre has emerged as the national-level topper in the CA-CPT result that was declared recently according to a statement released by the coaching centre. She secured 192 out of 200 marks.

Deputy EE gets jail term in graft case

Vizianagaram:: Judge of ACB Court in Visakhapatnam G.Gnana Suvarna Raju today while disposing a case under CrPC Section 248(2) sentenced Deputy Executive Engineer (Agriculture Market) Mohammed Shamshuddin to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs.2,000 under Section 7 of and two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.3,000 under Section 13(2) of Anti Corruption (Prevention) Act. The sentences will run concurrently. He was trapped while accepting Rs.15,000 from a contractor K.Pentannaidu for sanctioning a bill for works done at Gajapathinagaram Market Yard in 2010.

Chief Minister urged to stop DCI sale

The State government should make all efforts to stall the 100% strategic sale of equity in the DCI and also the proposed 10% disinvestment in the Steel Plant. A resolution was passed here on Friday at a meeting convened by the CITU. Several speakers said AP should take a leaf out of the book of Tamil Nadu that stalled privatization of Ennore Port and Salem Steel Plant.



Water bird census begins

Kakinada:: As part of the International Water bird Census, the Asian Water bird Census will be conducted in and around the city for two days from Saturday. The EGREE Foundation in association with the Forest Department, is conducting the annual census by providing on-the-spot training to youngsters interested in environment and bird-watching. Last year census recorded the presence of 40,000 birds in the vicinity.

Pilgrims complain of poor facilities in train

Vijayawada:: The pilgrims who are on tour as part of the Dakshina Bharat Yatra arranged by IRCTC have protested against poor facilities in the train. The IRCTC is organising the eight-day pilgrimage by a 16 coach train covering Tiruchirappalli, Tanjeeevur, Rameswaram, Madhurai, Kanyakumari, Thiruvananthapuram, Kanchi and Tirupati. They began their journey from Secunderabad on Thursday night. The pilgrims on reaching Vijayawada complained that the windows were nto closing and the sanitary conditions were pathetic. They stopped the train for four hours and demanded the officials replace the coach immediately.

Chief Minister to attend WEF summit

Vijayawada:: Chief Minsiter N.Chandrababu Naidu will lead a delegation to Davos-Klosters in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum from January 23 to 26. The delegation comprises of Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, N.Lokesh, Parakala Prabhakar, P.Prabhakar, T.Vijay Kumar and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister (Energy) Ajay Jain and Secretary (Industries) Solomon Arokia Raj and EDB CEO Jasti Krishna Kishore.

270 kg ganja seized and one held

Vijayawada:: The Patamata police seized nearly 270 kg of ganja being smuggled from Visakhapatnam district to Telangana State. They arrested one person S.Semon today and seized a car. DCP (Law and Order-1) Ghajarao Bhupal at a press conference held here today said on credible information the police team conducted vehicle check-up up at Ramavarappadu. On seeing the police, two were escaped while Semon was taken into custody.
