Vizianagaram:: Former MP Chinta Mohan on Friday said he did not know anything about actor and Jana Sena Party founder Pawan Kalyan. Asked whether he wanted Pawan, a person from the Kapu community, to take up the reigns in the State, he said the ‘last movie I saw was Shankarabharanam. I don’t know about Pawan Kalyan but I have acquaintance with his brother Chiranjeevi.
Vijayawada:: The AP Civil Supplies Department has purchased 3,50,819 tonnes of paddy from 30,631 farmers at 279 purchae centres in Krishna distict in the 2017-18 crop year. A relese from the district manager’s office said that 96% of Rs.535 crore had been paid as MSP to 29,287 farmers. Joint Collector Vijaya Krishnan ordered that criminal proceedings be initiated against staff involved in irregularities.
Kurnool:: The seven-day ‘Sankranti brahmotsavam’ began at the Srisailam temple on Friday, marking the onset of the auspicious ‘Makara Sankramanam’. Chief priest P.Mallikarjuna Swamy, priests and Vedic scholars entered the ‘Yagasala’ and made a ‘loka kalyana sankalpam’. ‘Mahaganapathi puja and ‘kankana’ puja were followed by a special puja for Sri Chandeeswara Swamy/ ‘Dwajarohana’ was performed and a flag bearing the image of ‘Nandi’ was hoisted amidst Vedic chants. Vijayawada:: AP CRDA Special Commissioner V.Rama Manohara Rao and Francis Chong, Senior Director of the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry took stock of the development works in Amaravati at a Joint Implementation Working Group meeting at the CRDA office here today. The CRDA and SMTI teams discussed implementation of infrastructure projects, urban governance, urban design guidelines, transport planning strategy, development plans, power infrastructure, solid waste management and entrepreneurship development.
Chittoor:: Twenty five passengers of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus were injured, five of them critically when the vehicle had a brush with a container lorry at Padivetamma Colony on the outskrits of Narayanavaram near Puttur today.
Vijayawada:: The AP State Haj Committee will select pilgrims going to Mecca through a draw of lots from among the applictons received from 13 districts at the Sub-Collector’s office here at 2pm on January 17. A total of 2,736 applications were received against the combined quota of 2,647 applications. With 533 applications, Kurnool district stood on top of the list and Srikakulam at as low as 5.
