HYDERABAD: Rohit suicide case-Reports submitted to SC, ST commission:: Hyderabad Central University in charge Vice Chancellor Pareyaswamy, Cyberabad Commissioner C.V.Anand on Monday submitted their reports on the suicide of a Ph.D Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula on the campus. The report included the action taken and the progress in the case.
State gets Rs.280.19 crore as drought assistance:: The Union Government has announced a drought assistance of Rs.280.10 crore to Andhra Pradesh from the National Disaster Relief Fund. The high level committee that met in Delhi today sanctioned the amount. The committee is headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Earlier on January 6, the committee has sanctioned Rs.433.77 crore to the State but the fund had not been released so far.
Environmental clearance for temporary secretariat:: The Union Government has given an environmental clearance for construction of the temporary secretariat in Amaravati. The State Government has decided to construct it over 45 acres of land in Velagapudi village. The AP State Legislative Assembly and the Chief Minister’s office also will be constructed on the proposed land.
KAKINADA: MLC ‘s son and three others injured in road accident::Anguri Praveen Kumar (21) was injured along with three of his friends when the car by which they were travelling overturned on the Warf Road in the early hours of Monday. He was the eldest son of Anguri Lakshmi Siva Kumari, an MLC form the TDP. The incident took place at around 2pam when Praveen Kumar was driving the car in which his friend, K.Sudhir and two girls were travelling. Sources said that the car was coming from Yanam side and Praveen was driving when the accident took place and was said to be inebriated condition. The car hit an electrical pole resulting in snapping of the live wire that fell on two cows on the road side kill them on the spot. In a bit to escape from live wire, he turned the steering and hit two cars that were parked on the road side and overturned injuring all the four sitting inside the car.
VISAKHAPATNAM:4000 odd liquor shops will be integrated:: Excise Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the State Government was all set to connect all the 4,000 odd liquor shops in the State to the excise department by implementing an integrated computer network to bring in transparency in liquor trade. It will ensure that liquor is sold at the MRP in all the licensed outlets from March 1, 2016.
Thieves make away with 10 bags of human hair from Simhachalam temple:: Robbers on Sunday night made away with 10 bags of special grade human hair worth over Rs.10 lakh from the Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple premises here. Executive Officer of Simhachalam temple K.Ramachandra Mohan said that nearly 15 bags of special grade human hair were stored in a room near the Kesh Kandana Sala of the temple and the gang took away 10 of them weighing around 160 kgs. The Gopalapatnam police pressed the clues team and dog squad action. Police sources said that insiders had a hand as the robbery occurred when the security guards were posted outside the building.
Mother language Day competition on February 18:: As part of the International Language Day celebrations to be held on February 21, Telugu Department of AU is conducting essay writing and poetry contest on February 18 and elocution contest on February 19 for students and research scholars. Interest have to register their names with HoD of Telugu, Sajja Mohana Rao (98484 04153).
Brahmotsavams on February 18:: Sri Lalitha Peetham will organize Brahmotsavams from February 18 to 22 on a grand scale. As part of celebrations, anniversaries of Manidweepa and Vaikuna Mandiram, Sree Lalitha Kameswara Kalyanotsavam will be performed in the presence of Courtalam Peethadipati Sri Siddeshwarananda Bharati at Peetham premises.
Online integrated registration till February 29:: Establishments coming under six Labour Acts can take up verification and renewal of their firms online for a period of three years under the Integrated Registration Act 2015. The six acts are AP Shops and Establishment Act, Motor Transport Workers Act, Gratuity Act of 1972, Contract Workers Act, Inter-State Migrant Workers Act and Building and Other Construction Workers Act and establishment can log on to www.labour.ap.gov.in on their own or through Mee Seva centres for verification and renewal. The process has to be completed by February 29, 2016.
VIJAYAWADA: TDP to set up its office:: The Telugu Desam Party would set up a separate party office here to enable the party president Nara Chandrababu Naidu to interact with several ministers and important leaders. They decided to induct leaders from other parties whoever would like to join TDP voluntarily.
Secretaries to work two days here:: All secretaries of the State Government will be available in Vijayawada every Monday and Tuesday. The secretaries should work two days here and four days in Hyderabad a week according to a circular issued by the Chief Secretary S.P.Tucker.
Vijayawada listed 23rd in Swachh City rankings:: Vijayawada emerged as the 23rd cleanest city in the country out of the total 73 cities considered for Swachh Survekshan project by the Union Ministry of Urban Development. Vijayawada scored 1,284 points. The Ministry conducted the survey though a toll free number, website and other sources before releasing the rankings.
