CHITTOOR: Army Jawan booked for drunk driving:: The Kuppam police on Sunday booked a case u/s 3533 of IPC for allegedly assaulting an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a police driver on duty in a drunken state by an Army Jawan. Family members alleged that he was manhandled by policemen during two-day illegal detention. Sources said that the Army Jawan who was on his way to Kuppam from Palamaner, his motorcycle reportedly hit a stationary police jeep on patrol duty at Gudupalle cross following which he fell on the road. The ASI and police jeep driver tried to lift him and the army Jawan picked up a quarrel and started assaulting them. The two police men took him to police station and later sent to medical examination that found him drunk. The family members alleged that the Jawan had been detained at the station from Friday night till Saturday morning before being released under 41 notice. They alleged that he had sustained injuries while he was manhandled by the police.
GUNTUR: MRPS ultimatum to State Government on quota:: MRPS demanded the TDP government to announce its stand on categorization of SC reservations within 48 hours. MRPS president Manda Krishna Madiga held a meeting with the leaders and activists here today and said that it will conduct series of protests including burning of effigies of minister for Agriculture P.Pulla Rao for his objectionable comments against SC categorization. He wanted the Chief Minister to spell out his stand on the issue.
HYDERABAD:IYR Krishna Rao is the chief of Brahmin Welfare Corporation:: Former Chief Secretary I.Y.R.Krishna Rao assumed charge as Chairman , AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation on Sunday. Speaking to media, he gave an overview of the corporation activities which included extending financial assistance to the needy towards scholarships, education, coaching for competitive examinations, skill development and entrepreneurship development. He said the corporation’s plans to take up new schemes such as health insurance and proving food and shelter to destitute, widows and elderly, besides construction of Aarama Kshtrams and community halls.
Two trains cancelled:: Train No. 58525 Palasa-Visakhapatnam passenger is cancelled on February 16, 18 and 21 and also Train No. 58506 Visakhapatnam-Gunupur passenger is cancelled on February 16, 18 and 21 due to ongoing works on Palasa Vizianagaram section.
KAKINADA: MLC car creates terror on Sunday midnight:: A car belonging to Kakinada MLC created terror on Sunday night injuring two cows and hitting two cars. The car was identified as that one belonged to East Godavari Congress MLC Lakshmi Siva Kumari and has a logo of MLC. Sources said that the MLC’s son Praveen was driving the car and another lady was in the car at that time. Sources said that he was in drunken state and both Praveen and another woman were injured and were hospitalized. Police investigating the case.
KURNOOL: Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy takes up bus yatra:: Rayalaseema Parirakshna Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday took up Rayalaseema Chaitanya bus yatra in protest against the step-motherly attitude towards Rayalaseema by the Chief Minister. He charged Chandrababu Naidu government with nonchalant towards illegal construction of irrigation projects by Karnataka and not making any attempts to object them.
Silver Jubilee Degree College student commit suicide:: One Viswanaga Surya Sai Hari Rao (22) a third year degree student committed suicide on Sunday morning falling on a running train. In the suicide note, he alleged that the harassment of the College Principal and another six lecturers drove him to the extreme step. He hails from Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district. He used to absent from classes as he was suffering with backache and the lecturers declined to put signature in the practical records. Police are investigating the case.

NELLORE:Mild tremors felt in many areas:: Mild tremors were felt in several villages of Vinjamur area in the district on Sunday. The tremors lasted a few seconds even as the people ran out of their houses. The residents of Chakalikonda, Bathivaripalem and other hamlets felt the impact of tremors but soon recovered from the mild shock. This is the sixth time that very low intensity tremors are being reported in this upland area.
NUZVID: MLA Prata Apparao wife passed away::: Nuzuvid MLA Meka Venkata Appa Rao wife Sujata Devi (56) passed away on Sunday morning at 6.30 due to hearth attack. Party president Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed condolences to him and visiting Nuzuvid on Monday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Second phase of Sunrise Startup Village soon:: HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the work on Millennium Tower proposed at Rushikonda as part of the second phase of Sunrise Startup Village would be launched soon. The Tower to be built would a built-in space of two million square ft one and half times bigger than the Cyber towers of Hyderabad. The Millennium Tower would have two lakh sq.ft.to provide ready-built infrastructure to startups. He said that the Union Minister for Communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad would lay the foundation stone for R&D centre of SAMEER at Gambeeram and IT tower, a joint venture of STPI and VUDA at Siripuram on February 18 in the presence of Union Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
IGBC to launch six student chapters:: The Visakhapatnam chapter of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) will offer IGBC-accredited training courses to engineering students. After the training course, the students have to take an examination on the net. It is also launching chapters in six engineering colleges in and around the city according to Co-Chairman K.Leela Prasad and Core Committee member and architect K.Srinivasa Rao.
Airline summit:: An airline summit for promotion of air travel, air cargo, trade, investment and tourism in the State will be jointly organized by the AP Air Travellers’ Association, AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Tour and Travel Operators of the State in the city on March 26.
