  • Kakinada:: Minister announces ex-gratia to the kin of those drown in beach:: AP Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa on Friday announced an ex gratia of Rs.2 lakh per child and Rs.3 lakh per adult would be paid to the kith and kin of those who drowned in the sea on Thursday. He along with Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Reddi Subramanyam visited the Government General Hospital and interacted with those undergoing treatment. It may be recalled that three persons died and two children went missing when they ventured into the Suryaraopeta beach here for a swim along with a few other family members on Thursday. Four people were shifted to government hospital in an unconscious state and were said to be out of danger. The family from Kapulapalem went to Nookalamma temple and after darshan, left for Kakinada. Some family members ventured into the sea to take a batch. As the sea was rough, eight persons went missing and the fishermen rushed to the spot and saved four.
  • Kurnool:: Three red sanders smugglers held:: Three inter-State red sanders smugglers of Kadapa district – A.Polaiah (30), Madaka Babu (35) and N.Ramudu (37) were arrested by Kadapa police under the PD Act. Kadapa district Collector K.V.Satyanarayana issued orders invoking the Act on the three smugglers on the recommendations of the SP P.H.D.Ramakrishna.
  • Machilipatnam:: Last date for submission of DIETCET is April 17:: DietCet convener and Regional Joint Director (Kakinada) D.Devanananda Reddy said that the last date for submission of applications for DietCet is April 17. Those who passed Intermediate and those who have written the second year of Intermediate examinations are eligible to apply. The test will be held in the first week of May. He said that so far over 18,000 applications have been received through online and can access for further information, he said. Candidates who are aspired to take admission into two years Diploma in Elementary Education must have applied and attended Diploma in Elementary Education Common Entrance Test. DEECET will be conducted on 04-05-2017 to 07.05.2017 in all 13 Districts of the state of A.P.
  • Nellore:: Congress leaders resent delay in Dugarajapatnam port work:: The Congress leaders on Friday criticized the State and the Central governments for the inordinate delay in implementation of the port project. Former Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan and Congress leaders and cadres staged a dharna at Clock Tower Centre in Gudur town and also took out a rally to the Gudur Sub-Collector's office in protest against the delay in starting the port works.
  • Ongole:: Thirty nursing students taken ill:: As many as 30 nursing students were taken ill after they consumed contaminated food here on Friday. The affected students were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. RIMS director Valleswari said a probe was ordered into the incident. Some of the students were given hydration therapy. MLA D.Janardhan Rao visited the hospital along with RIMS Hospital Development Society chairman K.Seetaramaiah.

  • Tirupati:: 67,000 applications received for ICET:: SV University Vice Chancellor Damodaram said that over 67,000 applications have been received for ICET to be conducted for admissions into MBA and MCA courses. The last date for submission of applications has come to an end on Wednesday. However, candidates can apply with a late fee of Rs.500 up to April 12 and with a late fee of rs.1,500 up to April 19, he said.
  • Vijayawada:: Andhra Badminton League auction on Saturday:: The Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association's ambitious 'Andhra Badminton League' will kick-start on April 8 at Kurnool with the all-important auction in which five franchisees will pick their teams. The auctioner will be APBA office secretary M.S.N.Prasad who has observed two Premier Badminton Leagues organized by the Badminton Association of India. The auction will be held at Mourya In. The matches will be held in Kurnool, Ongole, Vijayawada, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam from April 20 to 26.
  • Vijayawada:: Medha Patkar to meet capital farmers::Social activist Medha Patkar is scheduled to visit the city on Saturday where she would meet groups of farmers from the capital Amaravati region. Two groups of farmers from Undavalli and Penumaka will meet her at Kandukuri Kalyana Mandapam near Gymkhana grounds around 1pm. and submit a memorandum seeking her support int heir battle to save lands.
