  • 'HYDERABAD: Doctor assaulted – two arrested:: The Charminar police on Saturday arrested Y.B.Laxmi Devi, a housewife and her daughter in law Y.Sujitha who allegedly assaulted duty doctor Dr.Sweta Priyanka at the Government Maternity Hospital at Petlaburj. Police said that they assaulted her when she advised them to move of the emergency ward. ACP Charminar K.Ashoka Chakrawarthi said that the duo had come to the hospital on Friday along with Sujitha’s new born baby for vaccination and entered the emergency ward. They were directed to the nursery ward on the second floor following which they assaulted the doctor.
  • KAKINADA: DTC Mohan sent to Challapalli Central Prison::The Deputy Transport Commissioner A.Mohan who was raided on Thursday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for illegally amassing wealth was produced before the ACB court remanded to 14 days and sent to Challapalli jail. Officials found assets worth over Rs.800 crore. ACB Central Investigation Team DSP A.Ramadevi said that investigation and searches were going on in the case. She said that four bank lockers were yet to be traced. She requested the people who had information on the assets of the accused over phone no. 8332971044.
  • ONGOLE: 11 month old baby kidnapped:: A 11 month old baby girl was kidnapped by some miscreants in front of the railway station. The Government Railway police launched a search on Saturday based on a complaint lodged by the baby’s mother Revathi. Video recording at a CCTV camera installed at the railway station gave some vital clues, said the police. The woman went to buy milk when the offenders quickly took the baby away and boarded a north-bound train.
  • VISAKHAPATNAM: YSRCP dharna:: YSRCP senior leader Botcha Satyanarayana said on Saturday that it was shameless act on the part of the TDP to encourage defections from the YSRCP and the TDP should not continue any further in the NDA Cabinet after it made it clear that Special Category Status cannot be granted to Andhra Pradesh. He said that the party will organize dharnas at all Mandal headquarters on May 2 to demand that the government mitigate people’s problems due to severe summer they’re experiencing and on encouraging defections.
  • Justice would be done to Kapus’, Ganta Srinivasa Rao:: AP Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the State Government will do justice to Kapu community by resolving the long-pending issues such as reservation and that is why it has constituted the Manjunatha Commission and sought to submit report within nine months. Speaking at a meeting organized by the Kapu Welfare Corporation on Saturday, he said that the government had allocated Rs.1,000 crore to the Corporation and Kapu bhavans would be constructed beginning with Visakhapatnam.
  • B.Sc. re-examination on May 3:: The Chemistry examination of II B.Sc., course of Andhra University that was cancelled due to leakage of question paper on April 20 will be held on May 3 from 2pm to 5pm according to a release from the Registrar of Andhra University.
  • 'VIJAYAWADA: Government sanctions Rs.530 crore for interim Secretariat:: The State Government has given clearance for implementation of works worth Rs.530 crore for construction of the interim Secretariat at Velagapudi. Orders have been issued for construction of second and third floors at a cost of Rs.68.34 crore, basic amenities in the interior areas of the structure at a cost of Rs.355.74 crore and works worth Rs.105.92 crore pertaining to basic amenities. The Secretariat will initially be a G-Plus one structure while two more floors will be added for various heads of departments.
