  • HYDERABAD: TDP opts out of Palair by poll:: The TDP has decided to opt out of the by-election to Palair Assembly constituency of Khammam district. With the decision, the election might become a straight contest between TRS and Congress if the CPI(M) also pulls out. Sources said that the Congress was said to be in touch with CPI(M) leadership in a bid to restrain the latter from contesting. YSRCP has already extended support to Congress while the BJP had not given thought to contest.
  • Panchayat Raj department bags national award::The Panchayat Raj Department of Andhra Pradesh has bagged the ‘Incremental Devolution Index’ award of the Centre for the development of gram panchayats in the State with innovative plans. Minister for Panchayat Raj Ch.Ayyanna Patrudu received the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function at the JRD Tata Complex at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand on Sundya. He also received a cash award of Rs.2 crore.
  • RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Four booked under Nirbhaya Act:: The police on Sunday arrested four persons including wo history sheeters and two repeated offenders in connection with the rape of a girl and registered cases against them under the ‘Nirbhaya’ Act. Additional SP R.Gangadhar addressing press charged history sheeter Kukkkala Satish, Tadepalli Premkumar and old offenders Palivela Raju and Kanchi Satya Manikantha with raping the girl at Kavalagoyyi rural on the night of April 16. According to police, the abducted girl who attended her friend’s brother’s marriage from the TTD Kalyanamandapam around 11.30pm took her to Kavalagoyyi and allegedly raped her. When one of the accused was trying to drop the victim at the Kalyanamandapam on a motor cycle, the two wheeler was hit by a lorry and the girl sustained injuries. As she was admitted to hospital, the issue came to light.
  • TIRUPATI: Padmavati University to promote ICT capacity building programmes:: Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam has been identified as the ‘Training of Trainers Centre’ to promote Information and Communication Technology capacity building programmes for women entrepreneurs and policy makers. The programme is aligned with ‘Digital India’ and ‘Knowledge Mission’ initiatives of the Centre and State governments respectively. The Vice Chancellor V.Durga Bhavani announced this.
  • VISAKHAPATNAM: Train services disrupted during to north Andhra goes without power for over ten hours:: Visakhapatnam city and parts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam went without power for over ten hours. Following the tripping of 220kv capacity voltage transformer at the Kalapaka substation in Visakhapatnam around 4am, power supply was disrupted in entire district. Essential services including movement of trains were hit for about 30 minutes in the three districts. According to the officials, dust pollution, saline effect of the sea breeze and early morning fog were the prime reasons from the capacity voltage transformer to fail.
  • Three ACPs transferred::Three Assistant Commissioners of Police were transferred in a reshuffle late on Saturday. The transferred ACPs are R.Ramana (East Zone), GBR Madhusudan Babu (South Zone) and D.Ravi Babu (Madhurawada). Ravi Babu was relieved and kept on reserve faces allegations of involvement in civil disputes and land grabbing. He was in the news for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman by promising to marry her. Madhusudan Babu faces allegations of negligence of duty and involvement in civil disputes. He was posted as DSP, Railway Police. Ramana was transferred and posted as DSP, Intelligence but his area of posting is yet to be decided. ACP (CCRB) Visakhapatnam City A.Narasimha Murty was posted as ACP (East), C.Jay Ram Raju SPDO, Chirala will assume charge as ACP (Madhurawada). J.Ram Mohan Rao, DSRP, Visakhapatnam will assume charge as ACP (South).
  • ‘Ram Katha’ inaugurated:: Religious head of the Visakhapatnam Mahdi Bagh community Sydena and Moulana Amiruddin Malak Saheb has inaugurated ‘Ram Katha’ by Murari Bapu at Simhasth Kumbha Mela being organized at Ujjain. ON the invitation by Swami Avdehshanand Giri to inaugurate the ‘Ram Katha’, e led a large group of devotees form the city for participation in Kumbha Mela.
