CHITTOOR:: 20 year RI for two in gang rape case:: The VIII Additional District Court here on Monday sentenced two Salem based youth to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a housewife. During the two year trial, the victim committed suicide and one of the three accused died. On December 12, 2013, three youths of Salem – Sampath, Kasi and Raghavan assaulted the housewife and her family friend at Raja Indlu forest location close to Nendragunta cross between Pakala and Penumuru mandals. The trio dragged the woman and her friend into the forest and outraged her modesty.
GUNTUR: Vignan University students design a drone:: Students of Vignan University, Vadlamudi designed a drone that could help local farms in sowing operations. The students said that they had designed the drone at a cost of Rs.8,000 and using the drone, they could split the seeds in an acre in just under 15 minutes.
HYDERABAD: Union Minister Sujana Chowdary urges court to quash case against him::Union Minister Y.Sujana Chowdary filed a case in Hyderabad High Court to quash the criminal case registered against him. Sujana Chowdary claimed that the Mauritius Commercial Bank had filed a case in a criminal court and a non-bailable warrant has been issued against for his non appearance. He claimed that he was a non-executive director of Sujana universal Industries Limited and he cannot be proceeded against it. The case is to come up for hearing on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Sri Chaitanya given Keshava schools to run:: Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the State Government has given the responsibility of running the Keshava Reddy Schools in the State to Sri Chaitanya Educational institutions. He said that the decision was taken keeping in mind the concerns of parents and students of Keshava Reddy schools. It may be recalled that Keshava Reddy Schools’ chairman is facing charges of duping parents and students to a tune of Rs.370 crore.
KURNOOL: Uniform law on minimum wages mooted:: The Union Government is planning to promulgate a uniform Minimum Wages Act all over the country after discussion the issue at length in the coming Parliament sessions said Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya. Addressing a press conference, he highlighted the need for ensuing minimum wages to all the workers including those who were in the unorganized sector.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister gives Rs.18 lakh ex gratia to the kin of deceased in Sunday accident:: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today gave away Rs.2 lakh ex gratia to the kin of every deceased person in Sunday’s accident. It may be recalled that 11 persons including nine from two closely related families died on the spot when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a heavy duty trailer coming from opposite direction in the other lane near Vedullapalem junction in Nakkapalli mandal of the district. Express grief over the incident, Chandrababu handed over a cheque of Rs.;10 lakh to Edalada Ammaji, mother of Sreenu who died along with his wife Devi and three children Sai, Pavan and Durga Aparna. He also handed over a cheque of Rs.6 lakh to Kadiyam Achari husband of Kadiyam Padma who died along with her son Kumar and daughter Sai. Another cheque of Rs. 2 lakh was given to Nakka Prasad, son of N.Venkatalakshmi mother in law of Sreenu. He announced a compensation of Rs.4 lakh for the family of D.Chiranjeevi Raju who along with his son Sagar Varma also died in the accident.
Sri Rama Navami festival from tomorrow:: MLA V.Ganesh Kumar and Executive officer of Sri Kanakamahalakshmi temple S.J.Madhavi speaking to media said that Sri Rama Navami celebrations are being conducted at Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple at Ambika bagh, near Jagadamba junction from April 13 to 118. The festival begins with dwajarohanam on Wednesday evening followed by homams on Thursday and Kalyanam on Friday. Pattabhishekam will be performed on Saturday morning followed by Rathostavam in the evening. Vasantostavam will be held on Sunday morning they said.
VIJAYAWADA: Two NTPC engineers held on fraud charges:: Police arrested an Assistant Divisional Engineer and Assistant Engineer working in the Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) for allegedly resorting to fraud in importing high chrome steel grinding media balls from a company. Following an inquiry, the Vigilance DSP Srinivas lodged a complaint with the Ibrahimpatnam police who probed the fraud and arrested ADE M.Uday Kiran and AE M.Venkateswara Rao. The accused were produced in court and were remanded.
