  • Visakhapatnam:: Lokesh rubbishes charges on PDAs:: IT Minister Nara Lokesh has rubbished the corruption charges levelled by the Rajya Sabha member G.V.L.Narasimha Rao in the opening of a large number of Personal Deposit accounts in the State. Opening of PD accounts was an accepted practice and even the BJP ruled States had hundreds of such accounts. Did Rao mean that scams were taking place there too, he questioned Taking an exception to Rao ‘creating a scene’ when the TDP leaders went to meet Union Minister Piyush Goyal over the railway zone. He said that people are watching the BJP leaders and would teach a lesion to them
  • Visakhapatnam:: GITAM to felicitate Nobel laureate:: The GITAM will present the ‘GITAM’ Foundation Award-2018 to renowned biologist and geneticist Prof.Michael Warren Young during the celebration of its 38th foundation day slated from Saturday. Vice Chancellor M.S.Prasada Rao said Prof.Michael Warren Young of Rockefeller University in New York received Nobel Prize last year in physiology and medicine along with Jeffrey C.Hall and Michael Rosabash for discovering molecular mechanisms that regulate the circadian rhythm in humans and other organism.
  • Visakhapatnam:: AU to spend Rs.40 crore for infra structure development:: AU will spent Rs.40 crore on development of infrastructure in the next one year. Of the amount, around Rs.70 lakhs has been exclusively earmarked for beautification of the campus that includes building pathways and landscaping. Two hostel blocks with 200 room capacity are being built at Rs.4 crore each. Two more floors will be added to MVP Colony girls hostel to increase the bed capacity by 200. Two hostels for boys and girls are also being built at AU’s Vizianagaram campus at Rs.6 crore, said Prof. Nageswara Rao. He said that the Centre had allocated Rs.120 crore under the RUSA of which Rs.40 crore allocated for infrastructure development.

  • Visakhapatnam:: APRCET dates changed:: The AP Research Common Entrance Test for admission to Ph.D and M.Phil has been postponed to August 23,24,27 and 28 due to Bakrid on August 22 according to convener of APRCET K.Srinivasa Rao.
  • Visakhapatnam:: PV Ramanaiah Raja memorial oration on August 15:: Singer S.P.Balasubramanyam will deliver the P.V.Ramanaih Raja memorial oration at a function that will be organized at Kala Bharathi auditorium on August 15. P.V.Ramanaih Raja, a philanthropist was the founder trustee of Sri Raja Lakshmi Foundation. The foundation has honoured stalwarts including Sri Sri, M.Balamurali Krishna, Vempati China Satyam, Nayudamma, Tanguturi Surya Kumari, Lata Mangeshkar and S.P.Balasubramanyam.
  • Vijayawada:: Chief Secretary seeks report on children’s homes:: Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar has instructed the District Collectors to submit a report on the conditions of all children’s homes, boys and girls hostels so that necessary action can be taken to augment security on their premises. He said that the Chief Minister wanted a status report in view of harassment of inmates of hostels and other incidents of abuser of children.
  • Kurnool:: Quarry owner among six arrested:: The district police today arrested six persons in connection with the recent quarry blast at Hathi Belgal village of Alur mandal which claimed the lives of 10 migrant workers and left five injured. Those arrested were the quarry owner V.Srinivasa Chowdary, and Mahaub Basha, Shyam, Kailash, Ramesh and Narayana. They were held near a check post on the Karnataka boarder. Meanwhile, the government issued orders suspending two more government officials in the case.
  • Kakinada:: Adikavi Nannaya University Convocation:: The second convocation of Adikavi Nannayya University in Rajamahendravaram will be organized either in September or in October according to Vice Chancellor M.Mutyala Naidu. Candidates need to submit their applications on the website on or before August 27, he said in a statement.
