  • Vijayawada:: AP Police plant 10 lakh saplings during ‘Vanam Manam’:: The AP Police planted ten lakh saplings during the ‘Vanam Manam’ programme under the ‘Mission Haritha Andhra Pradesh’ as per the directives of the DGP R.P.Thakur. The DGP launched the drive at the APSP 6th Battalion camp along with Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Md.Ilyas Rizvi on July 18 set targets for all the unit officers. The police personnel procured samplings and planted them in police stations, colonies, battalion camps and government land.
  • Amaravati:: JV Rao appointed as Director, TRANSCO:: The State government has appointed J. Venkateswara Rao as AP Transco Director (Technical). He will be in the post for a period of two years. Principal Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jail has issued orders to this effect.
  • Vijayawada:: Saree missing in Durga temple-Board member Surya Latha suspended temporarily:: In the Vijayawada Kanakadurga temple saree missing case, the Trust Board has temporarily suspended Kodela Surya Latha from official duties till the facts comes into light. In the instant case, the Executive Officer M.Padma has submitted a report to the government. In fact the higher officials can take action in such incidents but Surya Latha was appointed as Trust Board Member and the officials cannot take inquire into the allegations on her.
  • Visakhapatnam:: World Telugu literary meet in Melbourne:: The sixth world Telugu literary convention will be organized in Melbourne on November 3 and 4. The convention will be organized by the Telugu Association of Australia, the Vanguru Foundation of America, Houston and the Lok Nayak Foundation according to Y.Lakshmi Prasad. He said that the theme of the convention was ‘Humour in Telugu literature – then and now’. It could deliberate plans for getting recognition to the Telugu literature, he said.
  • Visakhapatnam:: AU offers exective Ph.D programmes:: The Andhra University will offer executive Ph.D programmes, lateral entry into MBA, M.Tech and B.Tech courses and diploma in Maarine Law, Cyber Security and other streams to the Indian Navy personnel.
  • Visakhapatnam:: RINL staff union opposes maintenance contract: The Steel Plant Employees Union, the recognised union of RINL staged a dharna against the management’s proposal to introduce total maintenance contract system in the raw material handling plant and sinter plant. The union leaders alleged that the management was planning to extend it to the other facilities in a phased manner. A delegation comprising recognised union leaders submitted a memorandum to the Executive Director (Works) O.R.Ramani.
  • Kurnool:: Quarry blast – SI suspended:: DGP R.P.Thakur has instructed Kurnool DIG to place Alur Sub Inspector Gopinath under suspension following the blast in a quarry in which 11 persons were killed and few other workers suffered injuries recently.
  • Tirupati:: ‘Mana Gudi’ programme from August 23:: ‘Mana Gudi’, the TTD’s annual programme will be observed in the two Telugu States from August 23 to 26. At a meeting with the assistant Commissioners of all districts and members of the Dharma Prachara Mandali on Tuesday, TTD JEO P.Bhaskar directed them to give wide publicity in their respective areas and chalk out an action plan.
  • Chittoor:: Man throws three children into river:: In a shocking incident, a father allegedly threw his three sons into Neeva river at Gangadhara Nellore mandal headquarters on Sunday night. The police retried the bodies of Puneeth (6), Sanjay (3) and Rahul (10 months). According to preliminary information, Venkatesh (28) a lorry driver and his wife Amaravati (25) of nearby Balagangana Palli village quarreled frequently over family matters. The villagers reportedly informed the police that the couple had a bitter fight on Sunday night and the father later was seen moving towards Gangadhara Nellore with the children around 10pm.
  • Visakhapatnam:: ICU opened in KGH pediatrics ward:: An Intensive Care Unit with 10 beds and five ventilators set up at the pediatrics ward of KGH was inaugurated by Collector Praveen Kumar today. He went round the Hospital. He advised the authorities to provide the best health care services to children. A sum of Rs.10 lakh was spent on provision of beds, ventilators and other equipment at the Ward said KGH Superintendent Dr.Arjuna.
  • Visakhapatnam:: SUV hits stationary lorry killing a couple injuring a son and a relative:: A couple died on the spot while their two-year-old son and a relative sustained grievous injuries when the SUV in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary lorry on NH 16 near Nakkapalli today morning. Voona Sagar (27) a businessman, along with his wife Voona Rajani (25) son Dev and M.Narayana Raju (35), a family fried from Hyderabad was on his way from Visakhapatnam to East Godavari to visit a temple when the incident took place. According to police, Sagar was driving the SUV. ‘Another vehicle which was moving yards ahead of the SUV hit a motorcycle and sped away. The rider fell on the road. Sagar, in his attempt to avoid hitting the injured biker, sharply swerved to the left and lost control over the wheels before ramming the vehicle into the stationary lorry that led to the incident.
  • Vijayawada:: Tally certification courses:: AP State Skill Development Corporation and Tally Education Private Ltd., have signed a MoU to provide training to accounting software Tally and also certify students through the Employability Skills Centres located in universities and colleges across the State.
