  • Vijayawada:: Former DGP Sambasiva Rao meets Chandrababu Naidu:: Former DGP and Gangavaram Port Chief Executive Officer Nanduri Sambasiva Rao met Chief Minsiter Chandrababu Naidu today. The meeting assumed significance as the former had met Jagan Mohan Reddy during the ongoing padayatra at Dhara Bhogapuram village in Visakhapatnam district on August 25. He denied reports of planning to join in active politics. Speaking to press, he said that he met Jagan as he is the Leader of the Opposition. ‘I met him even when I was in service’ he said.
  • Vijayawada:: Government will poll land for housing:: Minister for Municipal Administration P.Narayana said that the government was pooling land required for housing projects to overcome the problem of scarcity, thereby providing permanent dwellings to all eligible beneficiaries. Speaking to media after a review meeting of the implementation of urban housing, he said that as of date 500 acres was being pooled for housing that the overall target to build seven lakh houses. Approvals were given for 5.36 lakh houses and 4.53 lakh were grounded.
  • Kadapa:: Umesh Chandra awards for three policemen:: Three policemen have been selected to receive the prestigious Umesh Chandra memorial awards this year for rendering meritorious services. P.Mahesh, Sub Inspector of Mannur Police Station, C.Srinivasulu, Assistant Sub-inspector (Kadapa traffic) and J.Hazarthaiah, assistant reserve sub-inspector (AR) will receive the awards at a programme to be held at Tenali on September 4.
  • Visakhapatnam:: APRCET key to be released on Wednesday:: The initial key of the APRCET-2018 will be put on the official website of Andhra University at 5pm. APRCET convenor K.Srinivasa Rao said any objections should be maid to him by 5pm on August 31. About 24,080 candidates across the State applied for the APRCET in 69 subjects.   • Tirumala:: Padma sworn in TTD’s ex-officio member:: Commissioner of Endowments M.Padma was on Tuesday sworn in as the ex-officio member of the TTD Board. At a brief function organized at Garudalwar Sannidhi inside the temple, deputy EO Harinadranath administered her the oath.
  • Visakhapatnam:: Harikatha festival :: The Departments of Language and Culture and Endowments of State Government and Sri Adibhatla Sri Kalapeetham will jointly organize a three day ‘Harikatha festival’ from Wednesday. The festival with 12 harikathas-two each in the mornings and the evenings in three days will be organized at Karakachettu Polamamba temple, marking the 154th birth anniversary of Adibhatla.
  • Visakhapatnam:: DCCB mobile ATM flagged off:: District Collector Pravin Kumar today flagged off a mobile ATM of the District Cooperative Central Bank. He hoped that it would end the ordeals of the people in the rural and tribal areas going all the way nearby towns for cash withdrawals. Customers of any bank can avail of the cash withdrawal facilities using their debit cards. DCCB Chief Executive Officer D.V.S.Varma said the ATM was being launched with the NABARD assistance of Rs.15 lakh.
  • Visakhapatnam:: Missing B.Tech student of GITAM found dead:: A 23 year old student of GITAM P.Ramu who went on missing on August 23 was found dead near Bheemili beach on Sunday. He is a native of Eluru and was pursuing B.Tech final year. Though the exact cause of death is not established, police suspect that it could be a murder.
  • Machilipatnam:: Widows of weavers stage stir for ex gratia:: The widows of weavers who committed suicide at Kappalaoddi village of Guduru mandal in 2015 on Monday staged a protest in front of the District Collectorate under the aegis of the Jana Sena Party’s weavers’ wing seeking release of ex gratia promised to them.
  • Vijayawada:: Forensic Professor suspended for demanding a bribe for conducting post-mortem:: The Forensic department Assistant professor Dr.B.Srimmannayak has been placed under suspension for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs.5,000 for conducting a post-mortem of the body of one Sivaprasad who died while hitting a divider. The Commissioner for State Medical Education has issued the orders.
