Visakhapatnam:: Commissioner, five cops get police medals:: City Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha received the Indian Police Medal from the Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu at the Independence Day celebrations organized in Srikakulam on Wednesday. He joined the police service in 1998. Three other police officers who received the medals included ADCPs P.V.Ravi Kumar and V.Suresh Babu, ACP A.Narasimha Murty and Head Constables Y.Sankar Reddy and Kundi Nagaratnam.
Visakhapatnam:: UGC recognition for UG, PG courses only:: The regional centre of IGNOU has clarified that the University Grants Commission will accord recognition only to programmes being offered at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. As far as te\he certificate and diploma programmes are concerned, IGNOU is free to offer them under open and distance learning mode. Hence, IGNOU continues to offer certificate and diploma courses as earlier according to a communique released by the IGNOU.

Ongole:: Man held on charge of selling liquor:: The Excise officials arrested a person on the charge of selling liquor on the Chennai-Kolkata highway by posing himself as a government employee on the Independence Day which is a dry day. On a tip off, the officials arrested Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy, who stored liquor in the car hired by a government department and was selling the same to tipplers on the city outskirts. In all, 56 bottles were seized.
Vijayawada:: Minor landslip in Gundala:: A minor landslip occurred on the Gundala hill slope area leaving residents of Vijaya Nagar Colony in jitters on Wednesday. Following a continuous rain in the city, a portion of the hill slope’s mud and boulders collapsed close to the two houses in the colony. No casualties were reported.
Vijayawada:: PSB Zonal office opened:: Chief Minister inaugurated the new Zonal office and Branch office of Punjab and Sind Bank today. This is seventh zonal office of the bank in the country. Chandrababu speaking on the occasion said he was happy to note that the PSB, one of the oldest banks in the country was opening its zonal office in the State.
Kurnool:: Driver allegedly flees with Rs.50 lakh cash:: A car driver assigned to Meda Ramakrishna Reddy father of Rajampet MLA Meda Venkata Mallikarjuna Reddy allegedly fled with Rs.50 lakh cash on Wednesday. According to sources, Ramakrishna Reddy who was travelling from Hyderabad to Kadapa, halted at Raj Vihar hotel in Kurnool for lunch and left the bag containing Rs.50 lakh under the watch of the driver. However, when he returned to the car, the driver allegedly fled with the cash and a complaint was lodged with the local police.
