Amaravati:: Telugu medium will be in Municipal schools’, says Minister Narayana:: Municipal Teachers Federation leaders said that the Minister for Municipal Administration P. Narayana has assured them that Telugu medium will continue in Municipal schools along with English medium. The leaders met the Minister on Friday and submitted a memorandum urging him not to dispense Telugu medium in Municipal Schools.
Rajamahendravaram:: Justice Somayajulu committee postpones hearing on Godavari Pushkaram stampede:: Justice Somayajulu Commission that was constituted to inquire into the stampede on the inaugural day of the Godavari Pushakarams-2015 to January 29. It may be recalled that the one-man commission was constituted on September 9, 2015 was given six months’ time to submit its report from the date of Justice Somayajulu assumed charge on September 29, 2015 and was given four extensions till now. Counsel for the government filed all the documents while the senior advocate and AP Bar Council member Muppalla Subba Rao appearing on behalf of the victims when directed to submit memos said that he wanted clarification from the government. He said that the video footage submitted by the government was having cuts and was incomplete and sought production of the video taken by Information and Public Relations department. He sought submission of crowd management list and other amenities at ghats submitted by the Collector.
Rajamahendravaram:: House sites to be regularized’, says Yanamala Ramakrishnudu: AP Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu announced that the house sites having no disputes of 24 lakh people will be regularized soon. Participating at Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programme at Burugupudi in Korukonda mandal on Friday, he said that a decision was taken by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on the issue. He said that Rs.375 crore had been spent on land acquisition for the Rajamahendravaram airport.
Visakhapatnam:: ISKCON Rath yatra at Gajuwaka:: On the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebrations, ISKCON Visakhapatnam chapter will be celebrating ‘Sri Jagannath Rath Yatra festival in Gajuwaka on Saturday according to a press release. The procession will start from Old Gajuwaka junction at 3.30pm and will through the main road and culminate at new Gajuwaka junction Bharat Petroleum Pump. MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao will be inaugurating the procession, said the release.
Visakhapatnam:: Members of Mecca Masjid demands early elections:: Members of Mecca Masjid, the oldest mosques in the city staged a dharna on Friday demanding early elections to the committee. Md.Atahar Shabbir, former president of the mosque said ‘in 1991, we contributed and collected donations to build the structure. And from the beginning it had been a private property run by a democratically elected committee. But it was taken over the Wakf Board about six months ago and since then, we have been facing problems as the committee has been dissolved. The upkeep of the mosque has hit an all-time low, he said. Members of the committee have been asking for an election for the last six months but nothing has moved.
Visakhapatnam:: Three day art exhibition from January 7:: GVMC Visakha Museum in association with Amaravati Visual Art Society, Vijayawada is organizing an exhibition showcasing the art and sculpture works of their members for three days at Visakha Museum from January 7. GVMC Commissioner M.Hari Narayan will inaugurate the exhibition at 5pm.
Visakhapatnam:: CEO hold review meet on electoral rolls:: Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal said after holding another round of meeting with the representatives of political parties and disposing of claims completing special summery revision returning officers should be ready for final publication of the electoral rolls. At a meeting with the officials of three districts on Friday, he said competitions should be conducted, voter identity cards should be given and new voters and senior voters should be honored to mark the National Voters’ Day on January 25.
