  • Vijayawada:: Currency racket – one held and Rs.39 lakh seized:: The South Zone police arrested a realtor V.Sai Kumar on Wednesday who allegedly cheated two persons of Rs.46 lakh new currency on promise to convert it into old currency at 20 per cent commission. ACP (South Zone) K.Srinivasa Rao speaking to media said that the accused came into contact with one Rajasekhar through friends and convinced him that he would exchange new notes for old currency. He planned to deposit the converted money in a bank and gave Rs.27 lakh to Sai Kumar. Another person B. Venkateswara Reddy gave him Rs.19 lakh and Sai Kumar made good with the amount on December 23. Following a complaint, a case was registered and arrested the accused and recovered Rs.39.44 lakh, two gold chains and rings and a two wheeler from him, said the ACP.

It is aimed at providing irrigation facility to 2.15 lakh acres in East Godavari district besides meeting both the drinking and industrial water needs of the Visakhapatnam city.

  • Visakhapatnam:: ACB traps treasury official:: Senior Accountant of the District Treasury Department, G.Srinivasa Rao was caught by the ACB for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.6,000 from a government junior lecturer on Wednesday. According to DSP of ACB Kinjarapu Ramakrishna Prasad, the accused demanded Rs.8,000 when the lecturer approached him for releasing his salary bill.
  • Visakhapatnam:: Noted gastroenterologist Muralikrishna dead:: Noted gastroenterologist and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology of KGH and AMC Palakurthy Muralikrishna died of leukaemia on Wednesday. He was diagnosed with leukaemia one year ago and was underwent treatment in US and return back to city a couple of weeks ago. He is survived by his wife Dr.Radha, a dermatologist, two sons, a daughter an aged mother.
  • Hyderabad:: Ramoji Rao hospitalized:: ‘Eenadu’ group Chairman Ramoji Rao was admitted to Yashoda Hospitals here for viral fever, back pain and lungs infection. Senior physician Dr.N.V.Rao, pulmonologist Dr. Navaneet Sagar team are attending him. Sources said that Ramoji Rao’s health is stable.
