Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh

The Parliament has approved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill and has made June 2, 2014 as appointed date for the formation of Telangana state and residual Andhra Pradesh. Since Parliament ratification is required for President’s rule within two months of its imposition and since Parliament could not be convened in April and May due to the general elections, the Centre has decided to dissolve the Assembly, which would give it another two months to approach Parliament. Supreme Court of India refused to stay the proceedings of the bifurcation of the State. The court has posted the matter to August 20 for further hearing.
