ONGOLE:: HRF for statutory backing to drought relief:: The HRF today sought a ‘drought relief Act’ as the Supreme Court’s guidelines on drought management were followed more in breach. Its State general secretary K.Sudha who led a delegation to the drought hit parts in the Markapur and Kandukur divisions of Prakasam district said statutory backing to drought relief was imperative. ‘As a matter of right, people must be provided with work, fodder for cattle and drinking water for both’, said its Telangana and AP Coordination Committee member VS Krishna.
TIRUMALA:: Twenty pilgrims hurt in bus accident:: Twenty pilgrims were injured, three of them seriously, when the APSRTC bus in which they were travelling met with an accident on the second ghat road today. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a deep curve and hit the adjoining mountain. The injured were rushed to Aswini hospital and three among them were admitted to SVIMS for better treatment. There were 31 passengers on the board at the time of accident.
VIJAYAWADA:: Stone laying for linking Godavari and Penna on Monday:: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for the first phase of the works pertaining to the interlinking of the Godavari and the Penna at Nekarikallu in Guntur district. The works in five phases with an estimated cost of Rs.83,796 crore.
