The Andhra Pradesh State Government has enhanced the annual family income for Scheduled Tribe students form Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.65 lakh to be eligible under the ‘Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi’ scheme to pursue higher education in abroad.
A G.O. issued by the Director of Tribal Welfare has sought enhancement of the limit to Rs.6 lakh and reduce minimum pass percentage of marks for PG course in medicine from 60 per cent to 55 per cent on par with SC students.
The State Government has modified the scheme in the last year by including 10 more countries under eligible countries to avail grant under the scheme, permitting one-year and one-and-half year diploma courses and adding more courses including MBBS in China, Philippines and Kazakhastan.
