The Minister for Transport K. Atchnnaidu today directed the officials to phase out the outdated buses.
He said that buses that are ten-year-old and have run 12 lakh km will soon be replaced with another 1,000 new buses soon. He said that training will be given to the drivers. Speaking at a review meeting, he discussed at length with the corporation authorities on reducing road accidents. Corporation officials informed the Minister that five per cent of the buses are of over 10-year-old and ten per cent of the vehicles had operated over 12 lakh kms.
On accidents rate in RTC, the officials informed the Minsiter that 0.08 and the corporation was trying to bring it down further. The Executive Director informed him that the corporation was conducting regular medical tests to the drivers and 544 drivers have medical problems and their cases would be reviewed separately.
