Management of Andhra Pradesh Fibres Limited at Jeegiram in Salur mandal declared lockout resulting in losing jobs for 1,550 workers including 800 women apprentice workers and badly workers.
This was the ninth jute mill to declare lockout during the last 18 months in the district. The management in its notice reportedly cited that it is not possible to run the unit due to irregular attendance of workers.
IFTU district vice-president B.Satyanarayana staged a dharna at Salur Tehsildar’s office. IFTU district president K.Sanayasi Rao alleged that the management has takena unilateral decision to increase production, which the workers opposed and sought time for a through discussion on the issue. He said that the management without taking their appeal into consideration declared lockout without prior notice.
