15 persons killed when truck rams into crowd near police station and many injured

Unconfirmed sources said that over 15 persons were killed and more than equal number of persons were injured when a truck ploughed through a group of people in front of a police station here on Friday when they came to police station to lodge a complaint.

All the villagers came to the police station to file a complaint against rampant sand mining in the Swarnamukhi river bed. As the electrical pole capsized, live wires snapped and fell on parked two-wheelers which went up in flames leading to electrocution.

Those injured included Circle Inspector, Sub-Inspector and journalists. Sources said that the death toll might go up since many people sustained serious injuries.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Sri Venkateswara Medical College and the injured were rushed to the SVR Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati. The grievously injured were shifted to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, CMC Vellore and a private hospital in Chennai.

The deceased were identified as A.Gangadhara Naidu, M.Babu, M.Hari, A.Pravhavatamma, N.Munaiah Naidu, A.Kondapani, Y.Saraswathamma, B.Vinitha, P.Jayachandra, Bhaskar, N.Sumati, O.Rajendra, P.Sudhakara Naidu, K.Nageswara Rao and A.Munikrishnama Naidu. All the victims are from Munagalapalem village in Yerpedu mandal.
