Over 1, 390 acres of land have been sanctioned for developing Greenfield Airport at Darmavaram village of Dagadarthi mandal in the Nellore city that is close to the Chennai-Kolkata national highway.
This has been a long pending project in Nellore district what with the industry and trade bodies demanding it for better connectivity to bigger cities. At present, people depend on the International airports in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Joint Collector Imtiaz said that they have already convened a meeting of officials of all departments concerned and a meeting will be held with local farmers and land owners in the next month. Dagadarthi airport is one of the four greenfield airports being pursued by the State Government in the current phase. The government has released an immediate budget outlay of Rs.50 crore towards works on the project. The Joint Collector said that efforts are on to make the required land available by March, 2016.
The four greenfield airports that will be coming up are Dagardarthi(Nellore), Bhogapuram (Viziangaram), Kuppam (Chittoor) and Oravakallu (Kurnool) districts.
