Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today said that Special Category Status is the right of the State and he would not compromise on the self-respect of the people changing his tunes.

He was intervening when a BJP MLA from Rajamahendravram Akula Satyanarayana was speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, Satyanarayana recalled that Chandrababu himself has admitted in the past that the SCS was not very beneficial as it would bring to the State only Rs.3,000 crore funds. This prompted the Chief Minister to clarify his stand. ‘ I have never said that. I have never deviated from my stand on the SCS and I have always worked in the interests of the State’, he emphasized. Amidst thumping of tables by his party leaders, Chandrababu said ‘SCS is directly related to Telugu people’s sentiments, their self-respect. There is no question of compromising on it’, he said.

‘Even now, I am not asking for any favor. I want the BJP government to read the 18 points in the AP Reorganization Act and implement the same’, he said.

Protests are on:: Dissatisfied with the assurances made by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the NDA ally, TDP and YSRCP continued protests today too. Congress president Rahul Gandhi too participated the protest on the lawns of Parliament. According to sources, at the morning teleconference with Chandrababu Naidu, many MPs suggested that TDP pull out of government but he suggested a wait and watch strategy.
