Union Minister for Urban Development M.Venkaiah Naidu said that that the government is planning to introduce a new rule of selling a new car unless shows the proof of car parking space.

Sources said that Venkaiah Naidu has spoken to Union Transport Minister who assured the former that he will take the same into consideration if the proposal comes to him. He said that though without parking space, the owners are purchasing the car and other vehicles and are parking on the roads resulting in narrow roads. At present, the vehicle registration is being taken care of by the Transport department while parking issue is under the purview of municipal administration.

Some experts opine that increase in parking charges, imposing charges for parking cars in narrow roads and increase in rate of interest on car loans will to some extent reduce the purchase of cars.

In this connection, it may be recalled that the Himachal Pradesh High Court has given a direction to traders to sell cars only after providing car parking space in Shimla Municipal Corporation limits.
