‘Need for a legislation to check misuse of social net works’, says Nannapaneni Rajakumari

Women’s Commission chief Nannapaneni Rajakumari has emphasized the need for a legislation to check misuse of social networks like Facebook and apps because of the risks involved particularly with regard to women and children.

Speaking at the Mahila Sadasssu organized by the ICDS here today, she said that due to the misuse of mobile phones and internet and influence of TV serials, crime against women is on the rise. She said that the family relationships are being ruined due to online bullying, stalking on FaceBook, exchange of documented privacy of a person. She too blamed the television serials for the rise in domestic violence.

Member of the Commission, K.Sravani said that out of 34,000 cases of rape, 8,400 are minors that were registered even after the Nirbhaya Act was brought in.
