‘Could not get ranks due to Telugu medium’, says Minister Narayana

Wednesday, November 22, 2017

AP Minister for Municipal Administration P.Narayana responding to questions raised by some members in the Assembly said that the students could not get ranks due to their studies in Telugu medium.

He said that during the academic year 2015-16 and 2016-2017, the students who studied in municipal schools could not get ranks below 10,000 in engineering stream due to lack of English medium. Taking this into consideration, the government has introduced English medium in all government schools. He said that 83% of the students have shifted from Telugu medium to English medium. He further added that English medium is being introduced in Anganwadi schools. He further said that the government has not removed Telugu medium but students can opt it.

To this statement, some members have raised objections saying that it is not correct to say that the students could not get ranks due to their Telugu medium background. TDP MLAs Dhulipalla Narendra, Sravan Kumar, Modugula Venugopala Reddy along with BJP MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju demanded to speak on the subject but the Speaker did not permitted them. The Speaker wanted them to speak on the subject in another format.
