‘Boat accident is the result of greed and irresponsibility’, says CM

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu making a statement in the AP State Legislative Assembly on Monday said that the greed and irresponsibility is the result of the tragic boat accident in River Krishna.

Making a statement, he said that there were 45 members including three crew members in the private boat that had only the capacity to carry only 25 persons. He said that a woman and a seven-year-old girl and two of the crew members are yet to be traced. The search is going on, he said.

He announced an ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh for every tourist who died and Rs.5 lakh for two fishermen Nadakuduti Pitchaiah and Kanna Sivayya who risked their own lives to save several tourists in the incident. He said that a committee headed by a two senior officers including one IAS and one IPS officer would inquire into the incident. He said that Andhra Pradesh would establish an authority on the lines of Road Transport Authority to establish standard operating procedures. Death toll rises to 21::As the last reports coming in as many as 21 persons were killed in the tragic boat accident according to sources. Out of these 18 persons are from Prakasam district. The 15 bodies that were retrieved on Sunday night were shifted to Ongole. The retrieved bodies include K.Ritish Ram (14) from Ongole, Harita (30) from Nellore and one body is yet to be identified.

Bhulakshmi who was undergoing treatment at Andhra Hospital died on Monday night. The missing body of her husband Sudhakar was retrieved on Monday. Bhulakshmi sister Lakshi is undergoing treatment at Andhra Hospitals.

Collector submits report:: District Collector Lakshmi Kantham has submitted his preliminary report to the government. In that report, he reportedly said that the boat has no licence and geo tagging. Even CC cameras were not installed in the boat. The boat operators have collected Rs.300 per person. The accident took place following lack of awareness when the boat was head towards upstream.

Post mortem completed:: Post mortem was conducted on 20 bdies in the presence of police. Police made arrangements to shift the bodies to their native places. One body which could not be identified, the doctors could not perform post-mortem.

ENC, Visakhapatnam has sent a team with six divers to Vijayawada for participating in the search operations.

Case registered against the concerned: The police on Monday has registered a case against the representatives of River Boating Adventures Sesham Modakondala Raop, Neal Seshagiri Rao, Gedela Srinu, Vinjumuri Vijaya Saradhi, Chitti u/s 304/2.
