The inaugural football match of the Afro Asian Games 2003 excited the fans when India and Rwanda teams played against each other at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Indian team managed to get 3 goals while the Rwanda team made only 1. India managed to get an early advantage when I.M. Vijayan made a goal at the 13th minute of play.
