State Government submits five names DGP alternatives to EC

CM refuses to comment on row of DGP as EC was a constitutional authority

On Friday, immediately after his arrival, the DGP SSP Yadav was formally asked to handover temporary charge as Director General of Police to the Additional DGP Welfare, Umesh Kumar. Yadav is forced to step down from the key post by the Election Commission for violating model code of conduct and orders went to him to handover the charge to the Additional DGP till the successor was choses.

Meanwhile, the State Government submitted a panel of five names of IPS officers to the Election Commission for being considered for the DGP's post in Yadav's post. The officers named in the list are ML Kumawath, Director General, Boarder Security Force, MV Krishna Rao, DG, Sashastra Seema Bal, KR Nandan, AK Mohanty and P Gautham Kumar, the last three serving in different posts in the State. Even though, the Election Commission has asked the government to submit the names of top most three IPS officers, the government submitted a list of five officers as a measure of abundant caution.

The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that the Election Commission was a constitutional authority and he would not like to comment on controversy. The Chief Electoral Officer, IV Subba Rao said to media persons that the EC was expected to zero in o;n the next DGP in a couple of days.
