Mini vans to ease impact of strike
The Minister for Transport, Kanna Lakshminarayana said that instructions had been issued to the APSRTC to allow transportation of vegetables and milk from the rural areas even as permits were being given to press mini vans into service to move essential commodities. Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, he said that he had held discussions with the APSRTC officials and the office bearers of the Joint Action Committee of the Twin Cities Lorry Owners Association to allow vehicles to ply in the city.
He said that the truckers associations, who have not joined the strike want protection to transport essential commodities and added that efforts were on to consult the police to see if security could be provided. He said that the APSRTC officials have assured that there would be no hurdles in moving vegetables and milk in the corporation buses from the rural areas.
The Minister said that there would be no disruption of movement of rice and other products for distribution through the public distribution system. The Minister said that the issues raised by the Truckers Association had to be resolved by the Union Government.
