First phase voting begins in Andhra Pradesh

Improved turnout viewed as people form queues right from the morning

Voters in Andhra Pradesh began to form queues to cast their vote for the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies as first phase elections began at 7 AM this morning. Increase turnout is clearly visible this time, thanks to the issue of voter identification cards on time by the Election Commission and campaigns by voluntary and social welfare organizations explaining people of the importance to vote.

District Administration and Police personnel had a hectic day yesterday and early in the morning as they have put in their best to ensure that all arrangements for the elections are done on time without any glitch. Backup Electronic Voting Machines ware made available at locations as a fail over situation.

The election today will decide the peoples selection of their 22 parliamentary leaders and 154 assembly leaders. The Andhra Pradesh second phase election will be held on April 23, 2009
