Says it is not aware of the existence of the college; To launch state-wide drive
Hyderabad, September 21, 2008The Minister for Higher Education R Chenga Reddy speaking at press conference on Sunday said that the State Government has declared Narayana College at Chengicherla where the collapse of a railing resulted in the death of a student and injuring 29 students on Saturday as unauthorized. The Department has woke up and announced a special drive to detect such institutions across the state. In this context, the Government admitted that it is not aware of the existence of the college and had no knowledge whether the institution was a junior college or a concept school.
The Minister said that ten teams comprising officials of Board of Intermediate Education (BIE), Revenue and Panchayat Raj and Engineering Departments would carry out inspections across the state and submit reports to the Government within ten days. He added that if any college is found to be lacking recognition, immediate action against such institutions would be taken. He said that the Government has not accorded permission to the Narayana College or its building at Chengicherla.
The Minister said criminal proceedings would be initiated against all the members of the society which ran the college and added that details of nearly 2,200 unaided junior colleges that were recognized by the Government would be posted on the website in an attempt to invite information from the public about institutions that did not figure among them. The Government would seek explanation from the Chengicherla Grampanchayat as to how the building was allowed to be constructed.
